About Fence Works
How long have you been in business?
Over 25 years. Fence Works has been installing fences in the Louisville metro area and Southern Indiana since before most of our competitors were in business. We've been locally owned and operated the entire time.
Are you a Certified Fence Professional?
Yes — we're Certified Fence Professionals and have been proud members of the American Fence Association for over 20 years. The AFA holds its members to a strict code of ethics and requires ongoing education to maintain certification. It's something we take seriously.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes — Fence Works is fully licensed and insured in both Kentucky and Indiana. You're fully covered on every project we take on. We carry general liability insurance and workers' compensation coverage.
Do you use subcontractors?
On occasion, yes — but only when necessary and always closely managed by our own team. Any subcontractor working on a Fence Works project is held to the same standards as our in-house crew. We don't hand a job off and walk away.
Is Fence Works a drug-free workplace?
Yes. We have a random drug screening program in place. Our customers deserve to have reliable, sharp professionals on their property — and that's what we provide.
Have you ever been sued or filed for bankruptcy?
No to both. Fence Works has never been sued by a customer for any reason, and we have never filed for bankruptcy. We think that says something about how we run our business.
What training does your crew have?
We regularly send crew members to American Fence Association Field Training School — one of the most recognized training programs in the fence industry. Multiple members of our team hold AFA Field Training certifications. We also attend industry trade shows annually to stay current on materials and installation methods. We genuinely believe training makes a difference in the quality of the work.
Estimates, Pricing & Financing
How do I get an estimate?
Easy — call us at 502-743-3623 or fill out the estimate request form on our website. We'll get back to you within 24–48 hours to schedule a time to come out to your property. The estimate is completely free and there's no obligation.
How long does an estimate take?
On-site visits typically take 20–45 minutes depending on the size and complexity of the project. We'll walk the property with you, take measurements, and answer any questions you have. You'll receive your written quote within 24–48 hours of the visit.
How long is my estimate good for?
We honor all estimates for a minimum of 30 days from the date of the visit — and often longer. If you're comparing quotes or need time to make a decision, take your time. The price won't change on you.
Do you offer financing?
Yes — we offer flexible monthly payment options through Wisetack. Financing is available for qualified customers and can make the cost of a new fence much more manageable. Ask us about it when you get your estimate.
How soon can my project start?
Typically within about 30 days of placing your order, depending on current scheduling and material availability. We'll give you a clear start date when you sign your contract. If there are any delays, we'll let you know immediately.
Do you offer military or senior discounts?
Call us and ask — we take care of our customers and we're always happy to talk about pricing.
The Installation Process
How long does installation take?
Most residential fence installations are completed in a single day. Larger projects, complex layouts, or properties with significant grading challenges may take two days. We'll give you a clear timeline before we start so you can plan accordingly.
Will the fence follow the slope of my yard?
Yes. Our crew is experienced building on sloped and graded lots. We install fences to follow your grade smoothly and evenly — without the stair-step look that comes from a less experienced crew. If your yard has significant grade changes, let us know during the estimate and we'll walk through the approach.
Do you call 811 before you dig?
Every single time — no exceptions. We call 811 and wait for public utility lines to be marked before any digging begins. We won't break ground until that's done.
What about private buried utilities?
We document all known private buried utility lines before we dig and work carefully around them. If you have private utilities (irrigation systems, invisible dog fences, etc.), let us know before we start so we can note them on the project plan.
Do you remove and dispose of my old fence?
Yes. Old fence removal and disposal is included on every Fence Works installation at no extra charge. We pull the old fence, load it, and haul it away before we start building the new one.
What do you do with the dirt from digging postholes?
We spread posthole dirt evenly along the fence line to allow it to settle back into the yard naturally. We don't leave piles of dirt or haul excess dirt away unless you specifically request that we do.
Can I customize the gap under my fence?
Yes. Just let us know what you're looking for during your estimate. Some customers want tight ground clearance (for pet containment), while others want a specific gap (for water drainage or lawn mowing). We build it to your spec.
Will your crew stay on my job from start to finish?
Yes — our crew stays on your project until completion, barring weather delays or material issues that we'll always communicate to you upfront.
Do I need to locate my property pins?
We can't locate property pins for you, but we can recommend a surveyor if needed. Having property lines clearly marked before installation is always a good idea — especially in areas where property lines are unclear.
Do I need a permit for a fence?
It depends on your municipality and whether you're in an HOA. Some cities require permits for new fence installations; others don't. We recommend checking with your local zoning or building department before the project starts. We can advise generally, but confirming permit requirements is the homeowner's responsibility.
Warranty & Materials
What warranty do you offer?
Every new fence installation is backed by our 1-year workmanship warranty, which covers defects in labor and materials for one year from the completion date. This warranty is extended to the original owner and is non-transferable. Vinyl, aluminum, and iron products also carry a limited lifetime manufacturer warranty from the product manufacturer — for as long as you own the property.
What does the warranty NOT cover?
Our warranty does not cover: weather damage (storm, wind, hail, lightning, flooding), neglect or lack of maintenance, damage caused by vehicles or heavy equipment, third-party modifications or repairs, natural characteristics of wood (warping, splitting, color inconsistency), or excessive irrigation/vegetation issues. Full warranty terms are provided at project completion.
Are your warranties transferable?
No. The Fence Works warranty is extended to the original owner only and is non-transferable. If you sell your property, the warranty does not transfer to the new owner.
How do I make a warranty claim?
Simple — call us at 502-743-3623 and tell us what the issue is. We'll send someone out to take a look and determine whether it falls under our warranty coverage. We've had warranty claims over the years, and every one has been addressed.
What wood materials do you use?
We use only prime cedar and pressure-treated pine lumber. We source from consistent suppliers to ensure quality and we don't use low-grade or construction-grade lumber on fence projects. Note: we don't guarantee consistency in color between boards, as wood is a natural product.
Who manufactures your vinyl and aluminum products?
We work with established, reputable manufacturers in the fence industry — suppliers we've had long relationships with and whose products we stand behind. We'll identify the specific product line you're getting during your estimate.
What maintenance does each fence type need?
Wood: Re-stain or seal every 2–3 years, annual cleaning, seasonal inspection for rot or pests.

Vinyl: Rinse occasionally with a garden hose or mild soap. No structural maintenance required.

Aluminum: Hose off periodically. No treatments, painting, or structural maintenance needed.

Chain Link: Annual inspection and periodic tension adjustment. No treatments needed.
